So we have survived our 1st ever mtb race together and we both got tested to the max with 117,59km of riding.
The 1st 5km was a neutral zone behind a Tip Trans truck... At this stage we already were doing speeds over 30km/h.
As the truck pulled off the speed increased and the top dogs started with their surges until the front bunch broke and we lost contact.
Obviously we were just using this race as base mileage and time in the saddle but crossing the 30km mark in exactly 1h was never part of the plan and soon the 11km climb began dishing out his punishment!
We lost contact on the climb at around 35km and only met up again at the 65km mark(water station).
Denver really struggling with fatigue and cramping, all due to a very well placed result at the Trans Baviaans 230km MTB Race and just never recovered properly. He really showed some guts as we worked very hard through the final 50km with rolling hills and steady climbs and as we have come accustomed to a little surprise at the end aka Epic Finish.
At least we can say the machines operated sublimely but the pistons lacked some time in the saddle.
Upwards and onwards to the next adventure.
